About
Utica's extensive baths expanded to monumental scale during the 2nd-century building boom that also gave the city its amphitheater. Bathers moved through halls faced with Proconnesian marble shipped in from across the Mediterranean. In 117 CE that marble hall did not exist yet; the baths as they stand were still ahead under Hadrian's patronage.
