A beneficiarius consularis held a statio at Campona, an auxiliary fort on the Danube road a short ride south of Aquincum. Trajan made Aquincum the seat of Pannonia Inferior's governor in 106 CE, and Campona's post gave that governor eyes on frontier traffic just downriver. Soldiers detached here from the governor's staff worked alongside the fort's own auxiliary cohort but answered up a separate chain of command. The post screened the approach to the new provincial capital.
