Licinian Baths

About

The Licinii family funded these winter baths for Thugga under Caracalla, around 212-217 CE, nearly a century after Trajan's death. Bathers moved through vaulted halls floored in geometric mosaic before a later inscription under Gallienus recorded repairs. In 117 CE this stretch of the lower town was still open ground with houses, no bathhouse in sight.
