Province, 117 CE

Arabia Petraea

Imperial province, praetorian legateCapital: Bostra

The empire's newest annexation before Dacia — the Nabataean kingdom, absorbed without a real fight in 106 CE when its last king died, its famous rock-cut capital Petra becoming a Roman provincial city overnight. The Via Nova Traiana, a paved military road from Bostra clear down to the Red Sea, was under construction through most of the province's first decade as Roman territory.
