Province, 117 CE

Gallia Belgica

Imperial province, praetorian legateCapital: Durocortorum

Northeastern Gaul, named for the Belgae Caesar called the bravest of all Gallic peoples in his own conquest narrative. Durocortorum (Reims) was its administrative capital, but Augusta Treverorum on the Moselle — modern Trier — was already growing into the region's real commercial center, on its way to becoming an imperial residence within two centuries.
