Province, 117 CE
Hispania Tarraconensis
Imperial province, consular legateCapital: Tarraco
By far the largest Spanish province — most of the peninsula, from the Pyrenees to the Atlantic northwest. Trajan himself was born at Italica, not here, but Tarraco's provincial forum and its temple to the deified Augustus, dedicated by Tiberius, made it the ceremonial seat for the whole Hispanic imperial cult.
