Province, 117 CE

Lycia et Pamphylia

Imperial province, praetorian legateCapital: Patara

A late annexation — Lycia ran its own federal league of cities, one of the most sophisticated pre-Roman republics in the Mediterranean, until Claudius folded it into direct rule in 43 CE, joining it to neighboring Pamphylia. Patara's harbor, since silted, made it the province's administrative anchor even after Attaleia grew into its busiest port.
