Mauretania Tingitana

Imperial province, equestrian procuratorCapital: Tingis

The western sliver of old Mauretania, split off in 44 CE and run separately because its coast faced Spain across the Strait, not Numidia and Carthage further east. Volubilis, its inland showpiece city, had already built the arch, basilica and capitol its ruins are known for today — one of the best-preserved Roman city plans left standing on the African continent.
