Province, 117 CE
Moesia Superior
Imperial province, consular legateCapital: Viminacium
The western half of the middle Danube frontier, split from a single Moesia in 86 CE under Domitian to give each half its own consular legate for the Dacian wars. Viminacium's legionary fortress was Trajan's own staging base for the second Dacian campaign of 105–106 — Trajan's Bridge across the Danube starts a short march downstream from it.
