A beneficiarii post watched over traffic on Trajan's Bridge, the 1,135-meter span that carried Roman legions across the Danube into Dacia in 105 CE. Soldiers detached from Legio V Macedonica pulled duty here, checking travelers and cargo at the empire's newest river crossing. Two of their altars survive, dedicated by men answering to the governor's staff rather than their own legion's officers. The station guarded the single busiest chokepoint on the entire Danube frontier.
