About
A road station named Praetorium anchored traffic on the route linking Tibiscum to the Danube crossing near Dierna, opened as Trajan pushed into the Banat during the Dacian Wars. Scholars count Praetorium among the small number of beneficiarius posts placed directly on Dacia's main roads rather than at a city or fort. Its name, meaning headquarters or governor's station, marks it as an official waystation. The road it guarded fed troops toward the Iron Gates of the Danube.
