Statio Beneficiariorum Viminacii
Beneficiarii StationMoesia Superior · Kostolac, SerbiaBuilt 101 CE

About

Viminacium served as Trajan's forward headquarters through both Dacian Wars, and its officium consularis kept a beneficiarii post busy processing the tax and travel traffic of an active war zone. Legio VII Claudia's fortress stood beside the provincial governor's seat, giving beneficiarii direct access to both military and civilian administration. One surviving altar records a soldier's promotion from a legate's beneficiarius to a full consular beneficiarius, a career step made at this very post. The station sat where the Danube road met the supply routes feeding two Dacian campaigns.
