About
A bathhouse stood within the canabae hugging the legionary fortress from around the time Legio VII Claudia's stone camp went up, giving soldiers a steam bath with under-floor heated pools. Excavators found lanterns proving night bathing was practiced here. The building visitors see today, with its mosaic floors and six ornamented pools, reflects later 2nd-4th century remodeling that postdates this snapshot — only its earlier military-scale core belongs to 117.
