About

A beneficiarius consularis dedicated an altar at Virunum, the seat of Noricum's governor, around 120 CE. It stands as the only known beneficiarius inscription from a provincial capital among the early stationes network catalogued down to 150 CE. Virunum served as Noricum's administrative hub on the Zollfeld plain from the province's founding until the Marcomannic Wars. Nearby iron workings on imperial land gave the post's soldiers a tax role beyond simple road patrol.
