About

The House of the Hunt paired a colonnaded peristyle of 19 by 13 meters above ground with a sunken underground suite for the hottest months. Eight ornamented pillars with hexagonal openings held up its underground hall to shed weight from the vault. A hunting mosaic added to the property in the 4th century gave the house its name. Builders broke ground here roughly a century after Trajan's reign ended in 117 CE.
