About
Thuburbo Maius built its Winter Baths in the 2nd century CE, after Hadrian raised the town to municipium status and gave its citizens a rank worth building for. The complex covered 1,600 square meters and opened onto a public square where two streets crossed. Columns of reddish marble quarried at distant Simitthus framed its entrance. In 117 CE Hadrian had not yet become emperor, and this bath block did not exist.
