Roman Baths of Apollonia

About

A bathhouse rose on Apollonia's waterfront under Hadrian, just after Trajan's death, and was later restored under Caracalla. A French archaeological mission has excavated the site since 1976, mapping the baths, the ramparts, and the harbor itself, including underwater surveys of the submerged port begun in 1986. Its ruins still stand today beside the ancient harbor mole. In August 117 CE this stretch of shore held only older buildings; Hadrian's baths were still years from being built.
