Statio Beneficiariorum Naronae
Beneficiarii StationDalmatia · Vid, CroatiaBuilt 100 CE

About

Narona ran one of only three judicial assize centers in Dalmatia, and a governor's beneficiarius worked out of the town to keep the southern conventus running smoothly. A surviving altar to Jupiter records a soldier named Claudius Marcus who was promoted from optio straight into a consular governor's beneficiarius post here. The town sat at the head of the navigable Neretva, funneling river and road traffic from the coast into the Balkan interior. Its posting gave a handful of soldiers oversight of one of Dalmatia's three legal and administrative hubs.
