Pannonia Inferior
The eastern half of the 106 CE split, fronting the Sarmatian tribes across the Danube rather than the Germans further west. Aquincum — under modern Budapest — held a legion and grew a civilian town alongside its fortress; both would eventually merge into one municipality, though not yet in 117.
The region came under Roman control by roughly 9 CE; split from the single original Pannonia into Superior and Inferior in 106 CE.
