Pannonia Superior
The western half of Pannonia, split from the single original province in 106 CE — the same year Trajan finished off Dacia across the river. Carnuntum anchored a legion on the Danube's great bend and doubled as a trading post for amber coming down from the Baltic.
The region came under Roman control by roughly 9 CE, after the Great Illyrian Revolt; the single original Pannonia was split into Superior and Inferior in 106 CE, the same year Dacia was finished.
