Province, 117 CE

Dalmatia

Imperial province, praetorian legateCapital: Salona

The Adriatic's eastern coast, conquered in stages that finished only with Tiberius's brutal three-year suppression of the Great Illyrian Revolt (6–9 CE) — the hardest war Augustus ever fought, by his own account. By 117 the province was fully pacified and demilitarized, its legions long since reassigned to the Danube frontier.
