About
An auxiliary fort went up at Buciumi under Trajan to help hold the northwestern edge of newly conquered Dacia. Two infantry cohorts, I Brittonum and V Lingonum, later garrisoned the post as part of the limes Porolissensis defensive network. Scholars count Buciumi among Roman Dacia's frontier beneficiarius stations, screening approaches from the Upper Tisza basin alongside the fort at Samum. Decades of excavation since the 1960s have made it one of the best-documented forts in the province.
