About
An auxiliary fort at Samum helped anchor the limes Porolissensis, the fortified line Trajan's army built to hold northwestern Dacia after the conquest of 106 CE. Scholars count it among Roman Dacia's frontier beneficiarius stations, paired with the fort at Buciumi nearby. Troops here watched the approaches from the Upper Tisza basin into Transylvania alongside a chain of smaller forts and watchtowers. The post stayed garrisoned through the following two centuries of Roman rule in the province.
